Wordpress CSS Drop-down Menu

I have created a three-level drop-down menu plugin for Wordpress.

It uses Stu Nicholl’s final drop-down code which is a complete CSS solution – no Javascript required!! With the plugin I’ve included his CSS but not imported it directly as it’s best that you modify it to suit your theme, and you also need to read Stu’s copyright notice on the page I’ve linked to (a donation to his fund would also be good).

Download the plugin from here.

If you want me to modify the CSS for you simply contact me and I will do it easily and quickly for you for a moderate sum.

    Hi,
    Looks like a promising plugin you have here. I’m downloading right now to see how it goes.

    I also have a dropdown plugin for WordPress … http://ryanhellyer.net/2008/01/14/suckerfish-wordpress-plugin/

    I’m working on a vastly improved plugin at the moment, but it is not ready for public consumption at the moment.

    I’m not intending to create a Stu Nicholls style Javascriptless solution though as I’m not keen on the extra markup required for it. I can see the appeal though and I’m sure plenty of people will appreciate your plugin.

    If my testing of your plugin goes well, I’ll leave a comment on my plugin page pointing people in the direction of your plugin so they can compare the two and decide which they feel is best for their purpose.

  2. Ryan says:

    Darn it. I should really proof read my comments before clicking the submit button. Please excuse my poor grammar above!

    I’ve now tested your plugin and it works fine.

  3. Excellent plugin, just what I’ve been hunting for.

    I was wondering if, with this plugin, it’s possible to exclude pages? As in, I don’t want pages with the IDs 21, 22 and 23 to appear with the rest.

  4. Pinto says:

    Hi,
    I have install your plugin but where and what i edit?
    i don’t see any options for the plug in my dashboard.
    thanks,
    Pinto.

    I would like for someone that knows how to help me install plugins Thank U

  7. rmaspero says:

    Is there away to have sub menus of the menus??

  8. admin says:

    @rmaspero

    If you want a third level I would be more than happy to help.

    I would have to charge for it though, I can’t do it for free…!

  9. admin says:

    @ GL Putman

    Thank for your business!

    I am using the plugin on a new site I am designing and it works great. There is one frustrating thing that has been happening though. Whenever I edit any existing page and save it, the excluded pages are removed from the exclusion list and appear on the nav bar. It does not matter what page I am editing. I then have to go and redo the exclusion list every time.

  11. Allen says:

    The latest update fixed the issue I mentioned above. Thanks for a great plugin.

  12. Ralph says:

    A very promising plugin indeed. Well, I fiddled around with it and did not find the third level. The 2nd level is OK, the third level will be displayed in the sidebar as well, but your plugin displays two levels only even if I disable all styles in my browser. Is it only me or is that a limitation of the plugin?

  13. admin says:

    @Ralph

    It should auto-generate the HTML/CSS for the third level. I’ll play with it a bit more and see if I can reproduce your problem. To be honest I’ve only created the logic to output the code but haven’t tested it perfectly. Will get back to you on that.

  14. Ralph says:

    oops… Obvisiously I have used an old version, namely v.0.3. Please excuse my impatience. I tried it again and it works great. Thank you.

  15. Alex says:

    Great plugin, please advise how to exclude pages. Thank you

    @Alex

    Please visit in your admin -> Settings or Options. It’s in there.

    great plugin!

    i only have one/two questions: what defines the order pages in the menu? and this plugin can work together with page mash? http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pagemash/

    thanks and keep the great work!

  18. admin says:

    @nelson

    The page order defines the order. Use the ‘My Page Order’ plugin in Wordpress extend to easily set the page order with a widget-like interface!

    If it works with ‘My Page Order’ it should work with Page Mash.

    one of the things I look for before choosing to use a plugin is a demo of what that plugin does… particularly any menu-affecting plugin…

    do you have a demo of this in action? I’ve visited Stu’s site often, but would like to see your plugin working before all the effort of a download, install, change to a site, etc

    Demos are good! Maybe on your own navigation menu? Just a thought…

  20. Marc says:

    Great Plugin, top marks, only one issue and one i would like to change is that when you hover over the buttons, you get alt text that says

    Permanent Link “Home” ,

    or whatever the page is !! How do you alter that to my own alt text ???

    Thanks !!

  21. Bif says:

    I must be the only dumb bunny out there that can’t understand your installation instructions (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-css-drop-down-menu/installation/).
    I have no idea what step 2 is trying to say. Can you try to rephrase it and be more specific?

  22. admin says:

    @Bif

    This plugin assumes that you have unpacked the plugin locally and are looking at its contents. You need to copy the CSS from the css folder included in the distribution.

  23. Bif says:

    Thanks for the quick reply. I understand that I have to copy the css, but what exactly do you mean by that? Copy the menu.css file as is to somewhere (if so where?)? Or copy the contents of menu.css into some other file (if so where?)? My guess is now the latter because I find that by copying it into my theme’s style.css file I get something to happen. Is that what you meant?

  24. Dean says:

    Can you add non Wordpress links to your CSS menu?

  25. admin says:

    @Bif

    No worries. You’ve answered your own question! :D

    @Dean

    I’m considering making it so you can choose a ‘links category’ to include in your CSS menu. Would you like this asap? Otherwise I’m afraid that development on this plugin takes a back seat if it’s not driven by investment.

  26. janz says:

    Great plugin! However, is there a way to define pages to be included instead of excluded from the menu? Like using included_css_dropdown_pages instead of removing excluded_css_dropdown_pages? Thanks.

  27. David C says:

    Hey, first of all, great menu!
    One thing I cant figure out how to do is include the “home” page in the menu? My website has a static page that is setup outside of wordpress and it uses that as the homepage. Any ideas? cheers.

  28. Alex says:

    Hi,
    I am try in to get the plugin to work but all it does is put the same page twice in the header. How do i fix this bug?

    Thanks,
    Alex
